Bad Kreuznach is designated as international spa-town for thermal-sole and radon-therapy. The "Salinental" is the biggest open-air inhalatorium in Europe. On your sightseeing trip in Bad Kreuznach you have to visit the bridge-houses, the symbol of the town as well as the museums which are located in the former manor Bangert, nowadays known as "Schloßpark". The museums which can be visited in the Schloßpark are the Schlossparkmuseum, the Roman hall and the museum for puppet theatre.

Bad Muenster is well-known as spa-town for thermal-sole and radon-therapy. The spa gardens as well as the Salinental valley invite you for a walk. The sculpture park as well as the Ebernburg are worth seeing. Discover the beautiful scenery around the "Rheingrafenstein" and experience the Rotenfels (highest steep cliff north of the Alps).

 

Meisenheim / Glan (18 km)

The town with its urban features of the middle age is surrounded by well fortified city walls, towers and many aristocrates. The castle, which was built in a gothic architectural style is very impressive. In former times it was used as church of the order of St. John of Jerusalem, as monument of the ducal family and as parish church. The pulpit, the organ as well as the seven choral windows of Prof. Amann (1968) are particularly worth seeing. The synagoge built in 1864 - 1866 is one of the biggest in the region of Bad Kreuznach. An exhibition about the history of the jews in the Nahe region is permanently presented.

 

Feilbingert (20 km)

The visitor mine Schmittenstollen which is located in the forest between Feilbingert and Niederhausen is the only mercury mine in Western Europe which can be visited. In this mine the mercury has been extracted as untoxic vermilion mineral.

Bingen/Rhein (30 km)

Mäuseturm Bingen

Bingen is situated at the gateway to the romantic Rhine, opposite of Rüdesheim. It is an ideal starting place for excursions through the UNESCO World Heritage of the "Upper Middle-Rhine Valley" whether by car, foot, bike or river boat. Discover the symbol of the city, the famous Mäuseturm (mouse tower) which is located on a small island in the Rhine. Climb up to the castle "Klopp" and enjoy the wonderful view. Additional sights are the old crane, the Drusus-bridge as well as the "Rochus-Chapel". Go for a stroll along the Rhine, relax, play or do some sport in the amusement park near the Mäuseturm.
The most famous duaghter of Bingen is Saint Hildegard. Experience the exhibition at the "Historisches Museum am Strom" dedicated to Saint Hildegard. In the "Hildegarden" which is directly located at the museum you can find herbs and plants whose effects are described in Hildegards book "Physica".
The museum also shows the epoch of the Rhine romance and the Roman culture with the biggest treasure of the museum, the "Binger Ärztebesteck".

 

Bundenbach (25 km)

The Celtic settlement Altburg and the slate mine Herrenberg with a fossil museum are located near Bundenbach. The Altburg is a celtic settlement inhabited from 170 until 50 before Christ.
The slate mine Herrenberg is now open for visitors. In this historical mine you can see a variety of marine fossils enclosed in the slate as well as some ancient tools used for mining.

 

Fischbach/Nahe (25 km)

Idar - Oberstein

Idar-Oberstein is world-famous as the gemstone capital of Germany. Only the finest stones are cut and tracked here. The precious stones can be admired at the German Gemstone Museum where more than 10.000 exhibits are presented. A world-wide unique exhibition!

Felsenkirche Idar-Oberstein

One of the most important sights of the town is the "Felsenkirche" (rock church) built from 1482 - 1484. The most precious object is the medieval winged-altar.


The Kallwiesweiherschleife (in operation from 1754 until 1945), popularly called "Weiherschleife" is the last existing and operating agate mill along the Idarbach.

The precious stone mine "Steinkaulenberg" is the only mine in Europe open for visitors. Guides with expert knowledge in precious stones will guide you through the underground galleries and will explain you the fantastic world of agates, twinkling rock crystals, amethysts, jasper and smoke quartzes in their original rock, the vulcanic basalt. Prospecting fields and prospecting tunnel have been established.
